External Volunteer Opportunities

District Program

The North Georgia Health District encourages residents within Cherokee, Fannin, Gilmer, Murray, Pickens and Whitfield Counties to volunteer with one of these emergency response volunteer organizations that are prepared to support the North Georgia Health District as we respond to public health crises.

Provides immunizations, blood tests, hearing, vision, dental screening, tuberculosis screening and pregnancy tests.

Health Check

Provides screening of medical and/or developmental problems for Medicaid-eligible children from infancy to 21 years of age.

Health Education Services

Provides educational services to individuals, community groups, churches, and public and private schools which are presented by nurses, nutritionists, health educators and other staff members.

HIV Specialty Care

The Living Bridge Center
The Living Bridge Center has two dedicated HIV medical clinics, designed to provide patients with the most up to date HIV specialty care and treatment.

Housing Assistance

The Living Bridge Center
The Living Bridge Center has a program of assistance for our patients who are experiencing unstable housing situations. The Living Bridge Center can assist patients in need of housing assistance, from temporary housing to long term assistance.

Immunization audits for all day-care and school audits for kindergartners and 6th graders per state protocols.

Immunizations

Provides immunizations for all ages with an emphasis on adequate immunization in infants up to two years of age. Makes home visits to homebound adults in need of influenza vaccine.

Newborn Screening

Provides metabolic blood tests to assess for metabolic abnormalities that can cause mental retardation and other permanent disorders.

On-Site Immunization Clinics

Provides on-site vaccinations to employee groups.

Perinatal Case Management

Provides a person to person approach which weaves together resources, including health and social services, for pregnant women to allow for healthy pregnancies resulting in healthy babies.

Presumptive Eligibility

Provides Medicaid coverage to income-eligible pregnant women during the Medicaid application processing period.

Scoliosis Screening

Scoliosis screening is provided in the schools annually for the sixth and seventh grades.

Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Services

Personal Service
Provides physical examinations, lab tests, and treatment of STDs, as well as follow-up for identified cases. Also provides HIV testing and counseling services.

Supportive Services

The Living Bridge Center
Supportive services range from assistance with getting food, transportation to and from medical appointments, substance abuse counseling services, appointments with mental health professionals, to oral health services to maintain those pearly whites.

Vital Records

District Program
The Vital Records Office processes certificates for all births and deaths. To be made aware of deaths, sources relied on are newspaper obituaries, news reports of accidents involving death, and notifications from hospitals and funeral homes.
