NORTH GA — Fall is approaching, and so are the North Georgia Health District’s annual Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinics, returning this year to all six counties in the district: Cherokee, Fannin, Gilmer, Murray, Pickens and Whitfield.
These convenient clinics make getting an annual flu shot simple for adults ages 18 and older. Residents can remain comfortably in their vehicles while local public health teams administer flu vaccinations at designated drive-thru locations.
And this year brings especially welcome news: Pickens County’s Drive-thru Flu Shot Clinic is returning to Jasper, giving residents throughout the North Georgia Health District access to a drive-thru clinic in their county.
The flu vaccine is available at no cost through most health insurance plans. For those paying out of pocket, the cost is $25 for a regular flu vaccine and $123 for a high-dose flu vaccine for adults ages 65 and older.

Protection for the 2026–2027 Flu Season
Influenza viruses can change from year to year, which is why annual vaccination remains an important part of flu protection.
Vaccines for the 2026–2027 influenza season are trivalent, meaning they protect against three influenza viruses.
Adults 65 and older are at greater risk of developing serious complications from influenza. Higher-dose flu vaccines are among the options designed specifically for this age group.
CDC continues to recommend annual influenza vaccination for everyone 6 months of age and older, with rare exceptions. While the North Georgia Health District’s drive-thru clinics are for adults ages 18 and older, flu vaccination is also available through local health departments and other healthcare providers for younger patients.
Convenience With an Emergency Preparedness Purpose
The Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinics provide more than a convenient way for residents to get vaccinated. They also give public health professionals and community partners an important opportunity to exercise emergency response plans.
During these clinics, health department and district staff work alongside law enforcement, first responders, volunteers, and other local partners to practice the coordination needed to operate Points of Distribution, or PODs.
PODs can be activated during a public health emergency to rapidly provide medications, vaccines, or other critical resources to large numbers of people. Practicing these operations during annual flu shot clinics helps strengthen North Georgia’s readiness before an emergency occurs.

Flu can cause mild to severe illness and can lead to serious complications, particularly among people at higher risk. Annual vaccination can help reduce the likelihood of getting sick with the flu and reduce the risk of flu-related hospitalization.
