    Septic Contractor Exams

There are 6 total contractor exams. You only need to take the exam(s) for the licensing that you need. The exam cost is $50 each and payment forms are cash or check. The exams are multiple choice/true-false and are closed book. There will not be a class before the exam(s). Please try to arrive by 2pm so that other persons taking the exams are not interrupted. 

  • Residential Installer
  • Commercial Installer (systems over 2,000 gallons per day)
  • Drip Emitter Installer
  • Area Fill/Mound Installer
  • Pumper
  • Portable Sanitation

**Important--Licensing Information**

  • Everyone who will be taking an exam is required to complete the Septic Installer Application. Please make sure that you sign the applications where required, print information clearly, and try to have the form notarized ahead of time. Please bring a photo ID to the exam.
  • If you do not already work for a company that is a DPH licensed septic company, you will also be required to complete the Septic Company application.  
  • After you have passed the exam(s), your applications and exam results will be emailed to the State office. The State office issues the certification cards and maintains licensing information. The only portion of the process that is done locally is administering the exams and submitting your applications to the State office.
  • If you are applying for licensing as a new DPH septic company, you will also be required to pay licensing fees for the company to the State office at the website here: https://dph.georgia.gov/how-become-certified-installerpumper. Please wait until after you have passed the exam to go online to pay company fees.
