LOCAL / LOW-COST / CONFIDENTIAL

The North Georgia Health District is committed to protecting and promoting sexual health across our communities by providing confidential, accessible, and high-quality STI services through our county health departments and The Living Bridge Center HIV clinics in North Georgia.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to affect individuals of all ages and backgrounds and are often present without symptoms, making routine screening and early detection essential. According to the 2018 published CDC estimates, 1 in 5 people in the U.S. had a sexually transmitted infection

Our approach focuses on prevention, education, testing, and treatment—ensuring individuals have the information and care they need to make informed decisions about their health.

Comprehensive STI Services

Services available through North Georgia Health District county health departments and The Living Bridge Center HIV clinics may include:

  • Confidential STI screening and testing
  • Diagnosis and treatment for many common STIs
  • Risk assessments and personalized counseling
  • Partner notification guidance and support
  • Referrals for additional care when needed

Many services are offered on a low-cost or sliding fee scale, helping reduce barriers to care for individuals and families.

Prevention, Education, and Support

Public health efforts emphasize:

  • Normalizing STI screening, even for those without symptoms
  • Promoting patient education and risk reduction strategies, including safer sex practices and prevention options
  • Reducing stigma through supportive, person-centered messaging
  • Encouraging timely treatment, partner notification, and follow-up care

STI prevention is a shared responsibility. Open communication, routine testing, and access to accurate information are key components of maintaining both individual and community health.

Public health plays a critical role in ensuring access to accurate information, testing, and treatment. By reducing stigma and increasing awareness, we can help more individuals feel empowered to take charge of their sexual health.

Why Routine Testing Matters

Because many STIs do not show symptoms, individuals may unknowingly transmit infections to others or experience long-term health complications if left untreated. Regular screening allows for early detection and timely care, helping prevent more serious outcomes.
