Message from the
Director:
Exactly what is environmental
health? Most people
are surprised to learn
of all the different things
we do. We enforce
regulations but we also
provide many services to
the public. We are
part of public health but
overlap with areas of environmental
protection. You might
find us inspecting a restaurant,
giving advice to a homeowner
on asbestos or lead paint,
investigating a complaint,
issuing a septic system
permit, interviewing a
victim of West Nile, reviewing
a subdivision, sending
off the head of a raccoon
for rabies testing, and
many more activities. We’ve
come a long way from the
days when most of environmental
health concerned simple
sanitation.
